Legal AI startup Legora to build dedicated Korea team after $550mn funding

By Maekyung News Service

Global legal technology startup Legora has raised $550 million in a Series E funding round, valuing the company at $8.8 billion, up 57 percent from its previous valuation.

Legora said Wednesday that it secured the funding, equivalent to about 750 billion won. Atreides Management LP led the round, with new investors including Baron Capital Inc., Capital Group, Fidelity Management & Research Co. and JPMorgan Chase & Co.

Existing investors, including Accel, Benchmark, Bessemer Venture Partners and General Catalyst, also participated.

Legora plans to use the proceeds to expand in the United States and Asia-Pacific and develop its agentic operating system (aOS) for legal work. The platform is designed to enable legal professionals and AI agents to collaborate on multi step tasks, including research, document review, and drafting.

Legora has been localizing its services for Korea, adding a Korean-language user interface, support for HWP files, and integration with domestic legal databases. As inquiries from local law firms and corporate legal teams have increased, the company has begun setting up a dedicated Korean organization.

Legora currently has Asia-Pacific offices in Sydney, Singapore, Bengaluru, and Tokyo, and aims to expand its regional workforce to 100 by the end of this year.

Heather Paterson, Legora’s vice president for Asia-Pacific and Japan, said the company would build a Korea-focused team, expand local staffing, and invest in product improvements tailored to the needs of Korean legal departments.

Legora also plans to introduce new solutions, including Agentic Intake to automatically receive and classify in-house legal requests, Horizon Scanning to monitor regulatory changes, and AI-powered legal research.

Max Junestrand, co-founder and chief executive officer (CEO) of Legora, said advances in AI were fundamentally changing how law firms and corporate legal teams operate by freeing lawyers from repetitive tasks and allowing them to focus on strategic judgement and advisory work.

He added that the company would continue driving this transformation globally with partners who share its long-term vision.
