German corporate initiative sees up to $4.6 trillion investment potential by 2035

By Reuters News

- A German group of companies and investors that includes Siemens and Deutsche Bank said in a report that it sees the potential for investment of up to €4.1 trillion ($4.6 trillion) in Germany by 2035 across areas including artificial intelligence, energy and defence.

Deutsche Bank CEO Christian Sewing and Siemens CEO Roland Busch will present the report from the Made for Germany business initiative to Economy Minister Katherina Reiche on Monday, a day ahead of an investment summit in Berlin that the government is hosting.

Faced with global competition that is targeting the country's top auto, chemicals and engineering firms, Chancellor Friedrich Merz is under pressure to revive growth amid rising support for the far-right Alternative fur Deutschland party.

Made for Germany was set up last year and includes 147 companies and investors. In its report it noted "high costs and excessive regulatory burdens", while adding that industry and infrastructure were potential areas of rising spending provided policymakers implement reforms to cut red tape.

Made for Germany said its members planned to invest more than €850 billion through 2028, after investing more than €200 billion in 2025. More companies and investors have been invited to join the initiative.

Investment firm Brookfield BN.TO, BAM.N on Monday said it would invest "tens of billions of euros" in Germany over the next five years, singling out energy and digital infrastructure as two areas.

Brookfield, which people familiar with the matter say is part of a consortium bidding for German energy firm Uniper UN0k.DE, sees the country as a "core market", CEO Bruce Flatt said in a statement.
