Egypt-based Telecom and Technology Co. (Teletech) and the energy storage business unit of Russia’s state-owned Rosatom have signed an agreement to set up a lithium-ion battery assembly facility in Egypt.

The facility will have a potential production capacity of 500 megawatt-hours (MWh) per year, the companies said in a joint press statement.

The collaboration will target sectors including the power industry, telecommunications, data centers, oil and gas, and other industrial applications.

Beyond technology deployment, the partnership will strengthen supply chain flexibility and build the local expertise needed for the next stage of Egypt’s energy development, said Teletech Chief Technology Officer Ehab Saad.

The agreement is expected to help reduce dependence on imported technologies and external supply chains, support grid stability as the share of renewable energy increases, and strengthen domestic technical capabilities.
