Biomérieux third-quarter organic sales growth beats expectations

By Reuters News

- French biotechnology firm Biomérieux BIOX.PA reported on Tuesday a better-than-expected organic sales growth in the third quarter, helped by a 13% increase across key growth areas under its GO28 strategic plan.

Total sales for the period came in at €1,042 million ($1.17 billion), up 8% year on year, above the company's compiled median consensus for sales of €1,007 million and organic growth of 5.9%.

  • Year-on-year growth at Clinical Applications, which make up 84% of total sales, reached 8% in the quarter, while Industrial Applications, 16% of sales, grew by 9%

  • BIOFIRE Non-Respiratory panels sales increased by 25% driven by "strong momentum across the entire portfolio", with the cyclosporiasis outbreak in the US boosting demand for BIOFIRE gastrointestinal panel

  • Biomérieux confirmed its guidance for the full year but added that it now expects a negative currency effect of about €35 million versus the earlier forecast of negative €40-50 million

  • The company, which targets organic sales growth of 3%-6% per year in 2027 and 2028, aims to expand into women’s health with a new vaginitis panel set to enter the US market in early 2027
