HomeMarkets overviewCryptocurrenciesXRP market cap
Market cap uses circulating supply (≈62.9 billion XRP), not the 100 billion maximum. Fully diluted valuation (FDV), which uses the maximum, is higher, at roughly $135–137 billion.
XRP's market capitalization is calculated with a simple formula:
Applied to current data:
≈62.9 billion XRP (CoinMarketCap, September 2026) × ≈$1.35 ≈ $85 billion
Unlike bitcoin, XRP's 100 billion maximum supply was fixed from launch in 2012 and no new XRP is mined. But how much of that supply counts as ‘circulating’ varies by source. In December 2017, Ripple placed 55 billion XRP (55% of the maximum) into on-ledger escrow contracts that release up to 1 billion XRP a month, under rules enforced by the XRP Ledger itself, not by manual company decisions.
In practice, Ripple typically returns 60–80% of each month's released escrow back into new escrow contracts, so the net increase in freely available supply is usually well under 1 billion XRP a month. The remaining escrow balance was about 32.45 billion XRP as of mid-2026 (XRPScan data, reported via Coin Turk).
This produces two different circulating-supply figures for the same date: CoinMarketCap and CoinGecko subtract everything Ripple holds (escrow plus its own operating balance), giving ≈62.9 billion; a niche on-chain tracker, XRP Insights, subtracts only the formal escrow, giving ≈68.0 billion. Neither is wrong; they simply draw the line between “circulating” and “not yet circulating” in different places, which is why market cap figures for XRP can differ by several billion dollars between sites.

Source: price series reconstructed from CoinLore historical data and news coverage; circulating supply is estimated between known reference points (≈39bn in January 2018, ≈62.9bn now), so treat this table as approximate and verify against a paid data export before relying on exact figures. XRP's official all-time high is $3.84, set on 4 January 2018 (CoinMarketCap), giving an estimated market cap of about $150 billion at the roughly 39 billion XRP then in circulation. But Ripple's own chief technology officer has said the $3.84 figure was skewed by a large price premium on the South Korean exchange Upbit at the time, and that XRP's price on major exchanges such as Bitstamp, Binance and Bitfinex peaked closer to $3.30–3.50 (The Crypto Basic).
In July 2025, XRP reached $3.65, which some outlets called a new all-time high; CoinMarketCap and most trackers still list $3.84 (2018) as the official record, since that figure has not been exceeded on their methodology. Both figures are included here for completeness.

Source: CoinMarketCap and CoinGecko Global Charts, September 2026. XRP currently ranks around fifth by market cap and accounts for roughly 3.2% of the total crypto market.
About $85 billion in September 2026, based on a circulating supply of roughly 62.9 billion XRP (CoinMarketCap) at about $1.35 per XRP.
Circulating supply × price. ≈62.9 billion XRP × ≈$1.35 ≈ $85 billion. Using the 100 billion maximum supply instead gives a fully diluted valuation of roughly $135–137 billion.
Because they draw the line between “circulating” and “not yet circulating” differently. CoinMarketCap and CoinGecko subtract everything Ripple holds (escrow plus its own balance, ≈37bn XRP), giving ≈62.9bn circulating. A tracker that subtracts only the formal escrow contracts gives a higher figure, ≈68.0bn. Neither approach is incorrect; they measure slightly different things.
Roughly $135–137 billion, calculated using the fixed 100 billion maximum supply instead of circulating supply. The gap between market cap and FDV mainly reflects XRP still held by Ripple, much of it in escrow.
Ripple locked 55 billion XRP into escrow contracts in December 2017 that release up to 1 billion XRP a month, but Ripple typically returns 60–80% of each release back into new escrow, so the net increase in available supply is usually well under 1 billion XRP a month. About 32.45 billion XRP remained in escrow as of mid-2026.
Bitcoin's market cap (≈$1.54tn) is about 18 times XRP's; ethereum's (≈$301bn) is about 3.6 times XRP's. XRP accounts for roughly 3.2% of the entire crypto market's value.
A maximum of 100 billion XRP was created at launch in 2012; no new XRP is mined or issued. The supply can only decrease slightly over time, through small amounts of XRP burned as transaction fees.
