BEFORE THE BELL: TECH WORRIES CRASH ASHORE IN EUROPE?
Typically tech stock sell-offs and AI wobbles leave Europe more or less out of it. This time around it looks like broader sentiment has taken such a hit from worries about the impact of the Democrats' midterm sweep on AI regulation and data centres that even European equities might see chunky falls when markets open on Friday.
Euro STOXX 50 futures are down around 1.4%, as are DAX , CAC and FTSE futures, even after late selling saw European tech stocks fall 3.2% on Thursday. .SX8P
Granted, that's still far milder than the almost 6% drop in Japan's Nikkei .N255, or the 5.5% tumble in the Nasdaq Composite on Thursday (although Nasdaq futures are actually a touch higher for now), but its not exactly the brightest note for Europe to end the week on. US October payrolls data later in the day could also add some spice to everyone's Friday.
Other than that, there's some bits of corporate news, including earnings to keep an eye on.
British Airways owner IAG ICAG.L forecast its annual capacity would be slightly lower than a year earlier as flight disruptions in the Middle East show their impact.
Elsewhere, Monte dei Paschi di Siena (MPS) BMPS.MI, which is Italy's third-largest bank and has been at the centre of takeover news, beat analyst expectations with its third-quarter profit on Friday. Its larger rival Intesa Sanpaolo ISP.MI is preparing to launch a buyout offer to take it over.
