Gapwaves: Gapwaves products now on American roads in Rivian R2 vehicles

By Modular Finance

Gothenburg, 30 September 2026: Gapwaves today announces that the company's patented waveguide antennas are integrated into Valeo's radar sensors in the Rivian R2. Customer deliveries of the new electric SUV model began in June 2026, meaning that vehicles with Gapwaves’ technology are now also on American roads.

Rivian is an American manufacturer of electric vehicles, and the R2 is the company's new mid-size electric SUV. The model is equipped with advanced driver assistance technology (ADAS), where radar constitutes an important part of the vehicle's sensor system. Valeo's ADAS radar sensors in the R2 include waveguide antennas developed and produced by Gapwaves.

An important reference in the American automotive market
The fact that Gapwaves' technology and products are now found in the Rivian R2 further broadens the company's commercial reference base and is a concrete example of how Gapwaves' technology is reaching the end market to an increasing extent.
The R2 is a recently launched model for Rivian and has been developed for higher production volumes than the company's previous consumer models.
Gapwaves' patented gap waveguide technology enables thin, high-performance antennas with a compact form factor, which is crucial for today's space-constrained automotive radar sensors. The technology also enables cost-effective industrial production.

”It is very gratifying to see our technology on American roads in the Rivian R2. The US is a large and important automotive market, and Rivian has built a clear profile around advanced technology and electrification. The fact that our antenna products are integrated into Valeo's radar sensors in Rivian's R2 is therefore an important reference for Gapwaves. This also demonstrates the breadth of what we have built together with Valeo, a market leader in ADAS solutions. The same fundamental antennas are used in radar solutions for different car models and in different markets. For Gapwaves, this is exactly the kind of scalability we want to achieve as our technology moves from development into products in an increasing number of series-produced vehicles. As more vehicle programs reach the market, the commercial impact of our technology also becomes increasingly visible,” comments Jonas Ehinger, CEO of Gapwaves.

The Valeo collaboration reaches more vehicle programs
Gapwaves has collaborated with Valeo since 2023, and the company's patented antenna technology is integrated into Valeo's current generation of radar sensors. Gapwaves’ high-volume production of antennas for this generation is now being gradually scaled up.
In parallel with the ongoing volume scale-up, the collaboration has been expanded to Valeo's next generation of radar sensors. In September 2026, Gapwaves received an initial development order for two new antenna variants for the upcoming generation.
