Erste Bank Polska meets third-quarter profit expectations

By Reuters News

- Erste Bank Polska EBP.WA, formerly Santander Bank Polska, reported a third-quarter profit in line with market expectations on Friday, as its growing mortgage portfolio and resilient net interest income helped offset Poland's bank tax hike aimed at funding defence spending.

Erste BP said its net profit fell 21% to 1.49 billion zlotys ($379.1 million), against a median forecast of 1.48 billion zlotys from analysts polled by Reuters.

  • Net interest income rose 3% to 3.30 billion zlotys, beating analysts' forecast of 3.24 billion, fuelled by strong mortgage lending

  • Net fee and commission income fell 11% to 643.4 million zlotys, below the forecast of 766 million, affected by falling retail segment and a 91% jump in commission costs

  • The lender's quarterly corporate income tax burden rose 60% from a year ago to 781.1 million zlotys

  • It set aside 109.3 million zlotys for legal risk costs associated with foreign-currency mortgages, down 35.1% from last year

  • Austria's Erste Bank ERST.VI, which bought and rebranded the Polish lender earlier in 2026, said on Friday it would launch the previously announced tender to increase its stake on Monday
