Tesla is reengineering its approach to in-car navigation, with plans for a major overhaul in 2018.
The maker of electric vehicles is promising a huge advance in its navigation offering as it works to complete testing of the new technology.
On Thursday, Tesla chief executive Elon Musk pledged the navigation proposition would be “light-years ahead” of its current system.
“Major navigation overhaul coming in early 2018. Will be light-years ahead of current system, but we are testing it rigorously before rolling out,” said Musk in a Twitter post on Thursday.
Over recent weeks, Tesla shares have been boosted by news of strong orders for its all-electric semi-trucks.
Big orders from names such as UPS and PepsiCo mean Tesla currently has over 400 pre-orders for the trucks.
Tesla shares have gained about 60% over the past year.
