Shares of Facebook traded up to 5.75% lower Monday following an outage across all its social media platforms.
As of 12:30, Facebook shares were trading at $323.38 (£237.67), down 5.75% from Friday’s $343 closing price.
“We’re aware that some people are having trouble accessing our apps and products,” Facebook Communications Director Andy Stone said over Twitter. “We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible, and we apologise for any inconvenience.”
Just after Noon EDT Facebook, Instagram Messenger, Occulus VR and Whatsapp all went dark for certain users in the United States. The phrase “Instagram and Facebook” was the top trending topic on Twitter in the United States as of 12:30pm EDT.
Facebook products began coming back online after about 6pm EDT.
Downdetector, a service that tracks Internet service issues, reported that it was one of the largest Internet outages ever reported, affecting billions of users.
