WALL STREET STOCKS EDGE DOWN EARLY AS BANKS EASE FOLLOWING RESULTS

The three major US stock indexes are down slightly in early trading on Tuesday, with shares of major banks mostly lower following their quarterly results.

An index of semiconductors .SOX is down more than 1% early with memory makers under pressure.

Shares of Wells Fargo WFC.N are down more than 2%, while JPMorgan JPM.N is down 0.8% and Goldman Sachs GS.N is nearly flat, all following their quarterly reports, which essentially kicked off the S&P 500's third-quarter earnings season.

On the flip side, shares of UnitedHealth UNH.N are up more than 1% after the company raised its 2026 profit forecast as it tightened spending on medical costs and improved margins in some units.
