EUROPE BEFORE THE BELL: STEADY-ISH
The start to Europe's trading day is looking like it could be a somewhat mixed, but broadly steady, after a slide in Asian stocks overnight on the back of the latest bout of AI jitters. Those typically don't impact European equities quite as much though, as there's simply not as many major tech and AI companies in the region.
And so, Euro STOXX 50 futures are 0.1% lower, DAX futures are 0.1% higher, and FTSE futures are up 0.4%.
CAC futures are meanwhile down 0.2% after France-based luxury bellwether LVMH LVMH.PA on Monday after the bell reported weaker-than-expected third-quarter sales as a sharp deterioration in Chinese consumer mood hit demand for its flagship brands.
Elsewhere, UK-listed BP BP.L on Tuesday said it expects to report $3 billion to $4.5 billion of impairments in its third quarter results, relating to its gas and low-carbon energy segment, and Milan-listed Stellantis STLAM.MI reported third-quarter estimated consolidated shipments of 1.3 million units, down 1% year-over-year.
Later in the day four of the six largest US lenders, JPMorgan Chase JPM.N, Goldman Sachs GS.N, Citigroup C.N and Wells Fargo WFC.N are due to report results - welcome back to earnings season!
