HBM blended ASP forecast to jump 121% in 2027
The average selling price of high-bandwidth memory is expected to more than double next year as rising demand for artificial intelligence servers and persistent supply constraints tighten the market.
Market research firm TrendForce said Tuesday that it had raised its 2027 HBM price forecast, citing the growing share of sixth-generation HBM4 products and continuing supply shortages.
The blended average selling price, which reflects the sales mix of different HBM products, is projected to jump 121 percent from this year.
Graphics processing unit and application-specific integrated circuit manufacturers are considering reducing the amount of HBM installed in each chip because of limited supplies and rising system costs.
They are expected to prioritize 8-Hi products, which use fewer DRAM dies per stack and carry a lower bill of materials than 12-Hi products.
Fewer DRAM layers, however, do not reduce the cost of the base die used in each HBM stack. Because the cost is spread over less memory capacity, 8-Hi products have a higher production cost per gigabit than their 12-Hi counterparts.
TrendForce expects the selling price per gigabit of 8-Hi HBM to carry a premium of about 10 to 20 percent over 12-Hi products in 2027.
