Evonik, BASF in contact over potential deal, says source

DUESSELDORF, Germany, Sept 25 (Reuters) - Evonik EVKn.DE and BASF BASFn.DE are in contact over a potential merger deal, a source familiar with the matter told Reuters on Friday.

The Financial Times reported earlier that BASF had approached rival Evonik and its largest shareholder, the RAG Foundation, with a proposal for a merger, sending Evonik shares to a three-month high.
