China's Geely gains as it turns to 4-minute EV charging in race with BYD

** Shares of Geely Automobile 0175.HK gain 0.6% to HK$15.85 in the second gaining session

** China's Geely responded to the challenge posed by rival BYD 002594.SZ on Wednesday with a system that can charge an EV in just four minutes, the industry's fastest speed

** Geely also introduced a next-generation electric vehicle battery and an upgraded Galaxy E5 pure-electric SUV as it seeks to revive sales in China

** Earlier this year, BYD unveiled a new generation flash-charging system that can charge a battery from 10% to 97% in nine minutes

** BYD Hong Kong shares slip 0.2%, Shenzhen-listed stock 002594.SZ down 0.9%

** YTD, Geely down 11.8%, benchmark Hang Seng Index .HSI down 3.5%
