WALL STREET TREADS WATER AHEAD OF FED, EARNINGS
Wall Street's main indexes are little changed early Tuesday as investors balance a pullback in oil prices against a busy week that includes several high-profile earnings reports and Wednesday's Federal Reserve decision.
Lower oil prices are helping support risk sentiment, although traders remain cautious ahead of the Fed. The central bank is widely expected to leave interest rates unchanged after last month's increase, but markets still anticipate additional tightening into 2027 as inflation remains stubbornly elevated amid the ongoing US-Iran conflict.
Sector moves are relatively subdued. A majority of S&P 500 .SPX sectors are lower, but only one, energy .SPNY, is down more than 1%.
Technology .SPLRCT is providing some support for the broader market with a gain of roughly 0.4%.
Beneath the surface, chip stocks .SOX are showing renewed strength, helping lift the tech sector, while housing-related shares .HGX are under pressure as investors weigh the outlook for interest rates and borrowing costs.
