China's coffee market seen doubling by 2030 as brands eye Southeast Asia

By Reuters News

- China's coffee market is forecast to reach $72.8 billion by 2030, up from $36.9 billion in 2025, according to a report on the Chinese coffee market by Dutch bank Rabobank.

  • Coffee shops are expected to drive most of that growth, with their sales projected to rise 14.5% a year through 2030.

  • Competition in the sector is intensifying as tea chains move into coffee as an alternative to falling revenue growth.

  • Tea chains such as MIXUE had about 6,000 coffee-equipped stores by August and targets 14,000 by year-end.

  • Overseas expansion is still at an early stage for Chinese coffee companies.

  • Rabobank called Southeast Asia the most logical first destination, citing fragmented markets, established coffee cultures and proximity to China.

  • The Rabobank analysts said franchising is likely to play a central role, as Chinese brands seek strong local partners.
