Snowflake Inc. (SNOW) is an American software company that offers a cloud-based data storage and analytics service, known as "Data Warehouse-as-a-Service" or DWaaS. Founded in 2012 and headquartered in San Mateo, California, it provides corporate users with a single, integrated platform that offers the data warehouse built for the cloud; a core architecture that enables various types of data workloads; and instant, secure, governed access to their entire network of data.
Snowflake went public on September 16, 2020, listing its shares under the ticker symbol SNOW on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). At the time of its market debut, the company was the highest valued software IPO in history.

Snowflake was created with an idea of combining data warehousing capabilities, cloud elasticity and big data platforms’ flexibility at a fraction of the cost of traditional solutions. It built a cloud-based data warehouse system that can compete with on-premises data warehouse products from the industry’s leaders such as International Business Machines (IBM), Oracle (ORCL), and Teradata (TDC).
Today, the company provides integrated data management capabilities to enterprises in the US and internationally. While it pursues organisations of all sizes, its main focus remains on medium and large firms. Prior to the stock market listing, the company had raised a total of $1.4bn since its founding. Snowflake priced its IPO at $120, above the already increased range of $100-110. In its market debut, shares opened up at $245, more than doubling that offering price, then surged as high as $319 and closed at $253.93. The listing valued the business at $70.4bn, more than five times its $12.4bn valuation in February 2020.
