The lira was quoted at 48.9965-49.0000 against the U.S. dollar at 0416 GMT, after closing at 48.9825 on Monday.
The BIST 100 index .XU100 closed 2.38% lower at 12,592.76 points on Monday.
GLOBAL MARKETS
Oil prices and bond yields were higher in an uncomfortable combination for Asian equities on Tuesday, as investors braced for an interest rate hike in Australia and an era where short term borrowing costs settle at their highest for years.

ERDOGAN ON FUNDS CRISIS
Erdogan said on Monday there were no risks to the Turkish financial system due to a crisis over the liquidation of investment funds, and that the government was working to ensure all necessary steps were taken swiftly, after a senior figure from his ruling party resigned amid an ongoing probe.
Earlier, Turkey lifted asset-freeze orders imposed on 46 companies under an investigation into investment funds, media reported on Monday.
