Turkey - Factors to Watch on Sept 24
ANKARA, Sept 24 (Reuters) - Here are news, reports and events that may affect Turkish financial markets on Thursday.
The lira was quoted at around 48.8550 against the U.S. dollar at 0420, unchanged from Wednesday's close.
The BIST 100 index closed 0.40% higher at 13,251.85 points on Wednesday.
GLOBAL MARKETS
Debt markets were on edge on Thursday, as Japanese bonds followed Treasuries lower, while Asian equities were mixed as investors weighed simmering Middle East tensions and prospects for talks between the United States and China.
VICE PRESIDENT
Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz will attend a foundation-laying ceremony for a logistical facility in the northwestern province of Bursa and meet with businesspeople there. (1400 GMT) (1530 GMT)
AGRICULTURE MINISTER
Agriculture and Forestry Minister Ibrahim Yumakli will attend a forum in Moscow and later meet with his Russian counterpart.
OPPOSITION
The court-appointed chairman of the Republican People's Party (CHP) will chair a meeting of the party's central executive committee in Ankara.
CENBANK DATA
Turkish central bank to publish weekly money and banking data, including foreign exchange reserves and securities transaction figures. (1130 GMT)
DEFENCE MINISTRY
The Turkish Defence Ministry holds its weekly press briefing in the Aegean province of Mugla on the sidelines of an annual military exercise. It is likely to comment on recent tensions in the Middle East and the decision by Iraq and Turkey to withdraw from a camp in northern Iraq.
TURKEY-IRAQ
Turkey and Iraq agreed on Wednesday for Turkish forces to hand over a military camp in northern Iraq to the Iraqi government gradually, they said after talks in New York, adding they also agreed to end the presence of "outlawed armed elements" in northern Iraq.
TURKISH AIRLINES-BOEING
Turkish Airlines THYAO.IS announced on Wednesday that it has finalized firm orders for 100 Boeing BA.N 737-8 MAX jets, with options for another 50. The deal also allows the airline to switch orders to the larger 737-10.
FUND INVESTIGATION
Turkey's capital markets regulator said on Wednesday that almost half a million investors hold stakes in more than 100 Turkish investment funds worth around $18 billion which authorities last week ordered to be liquidated during a market selloff.
FATF DECISION
Turkey has strengthened its fight against money laundering and terrorist financing but needs to do more to trace cross-border criminal proceeds and recover illicit assets, the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) said in its latest assessment.
ANKARA MAYOR
Ankara Mayor Mansur Yavas said on Wednesday he was resigning from the Republican People's Party (CHP), whose chairmen was ousted by a court order in May. Yavas added that he would continue his political career as an independent politician, rather than joining the newly-formed party of former CHP leader Ozgur Ozel.
