Turkey - Factors to Watch on Sept 23

- Here are news, reports and events that may affect Turkish financial markets on Wednesday.

The lira was quoted at around 48.8375 against the U.S. dollar in early trade, after closing at 48.8190 on Tuesday.

The BIST 100 index closed 1.04% lower at 13,198.84 points on Tuesday.

GLOBAL MARKETS

Asian shares were aiming for a sixth session of gains on Wednesday as consumer hunger for AI apps continued to buoy tech stocks, while oil prices fell further on reports of increased supply out of the Middle East.

ERDOGAN SCHEDULE

President Tayyip Erdogan will attend a climate event at United Nations headquarters in New York, followed by an event at Gotham Hall organised by the Turkish American National Steering Committee, the Union of International Democrats, MUSIAD business association and the U.S. Council of Muslim Organizations.

VICE PRESIDENT

Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz will attend the MUSIAD Expo and IBF International Business Forum and the Istanbul Commerce Congress in Istanbul (0700 GMT).

TRANSPORT MINISTER

Transport Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu will attend the opening ceremony for the south-eastern province of Siirt airport's new terminal building and make statements during visits to road and railway construction sites (0800 GMT).

OPPOSITION

Main opposition Yeni Parti leader Ozgur Ozel will meet Anahtar Party leader Yavuz Agiralioglu at the party's headquarters (1130 GMT).

CENTRAL BANK

The central bank will announce September sectoral inflation expectations (0700 GMT).

CENTRAL BANK GOVERNOR

Central Bank Governor Fatih Karahan said on Tuesday that supply shocks had a material impact on headline inflation and services inflation remained persistent, while growth had slowed as domestic demand weakened. He said data pointed to continued disinflation but inflation expectations warranted continued caution.

BORSA ISTANBUL

Turkey's stock exchange, Borsa Istanbul, will replace more than a quarter of the constituents of its benchmark BIST 100 index from next month, its biggest reshuffle in six years, as regulators address weaknesses exposed by a recent investment fund liquidity crisis.
