Turkey - Factors to Watch on Sept 22

ANKARA, Sept 22 (Reuters) - Here are news, reports and events that may affect Turkish financial markets on Tuesday.

The lira was quoted at 48.8140 against the U.S. dollar at 0425 GMT, after closing at 48.82 on Monday.

The BIST 100 index rose 0.40% to 13,337.69 points on Monday.

GLOBAL MARKETS

Technology stocks powered Asian markets higher on Tuesday as lower oil prices lifted sentiment and investors pinned their hopes on US-Iran talks, while the dollar stood tall on bets that more hikes are needed to rein in inflation.

ERDOGAN AT UNITED NATIONS

President Tayyip Erdogan will address the United Nations General Assembly in New York. He and Turkish First Lady Emine Erdogan will then attend a dinner hosted by U.S. President President Donald Trump and U.S. First Lady Melania Trump in honour of heads of state visiting for the General Assembly.

VICE PRESIDENT

Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz will chair a meeting of the Turkish Geographical Information System. (0700 GMT)

CONSUMER CONFIDENCE TRCONC=ECI

The Turkish Statistical Institute will announce the September consumer confidence index. (0700 GMT)

AI INITIATIVE

Turkey, which will host the COP31 climate summit in Antalya in November, launched a push on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly on Monday to address AI's skyrocketing energy demand through a political pledge that countries would adopt to align their AI infrastructure build-out with global climate goals.

FUND INVESTIGATION

Turkish authorities detained 15 people on Monday in an investigation into transactions involving shares of Katilimevim , a listed Turkish savings financing company, while freezing assets linked to executives at several other investment firms, Justice Minister Akin Gurlek said.
