TECH STRENGTH HELPS STOXX NUDGE UP

European shares were slightly higher on Wednesday, as lower crude prices and continued buying in technology stocks helped lift the STOXX 600 .STOXX 0.2% in early trading.

Gains were modest, however, and the picture across individual stocks was mixed, with decliners outnumbering advancers by roughly 290 to 270.

Tech .SX8P rose 0.6% to a four-week high, heading for a sixth consecutive session of gains, thanks mainly to software stocks and gains in some semiconductor plays.

It strength was partly offset by weakness in telecoms .SXKP, the worst-performing sector, down 0.5%.
