Australia shares poised for gains at open, NZ up

By Reuters News

- Australian shares were set to open higher on Tuesday, buoyed by anticipated gains from miners on the back of strong base metal prices, while hopes of diplomatic progress in the Gulf kept oil prices below $100 and lifted investor sentiment.

The local share price index futures rose 0.3%, a 77.1-point premium to the underlying S&P/ASX 200 index .AXJO close. The benchmark ended flat on Monday.

New Zealand's benchmark S&P/NZX 50 index .NZ50 gained 0.2% in early trade.
