Asia Distillates-Diesel little changed while jet fuel softens

By Reuters News

- Asia's diesel benchmarks were broadly unchanged on Monday amid a lack of fresh drivers after last week's US diesel export ban talks, while market structure for jet fuel weakened from the last session.

Cash differential for gasoil remained near $3 a barrel, broadly clinging near two-week lows.

However, refining margin closed higher than the previous trading day, rising above $71 a barrel at Monday's Asia close.

The market remained on watch for the upcoming batch of China export quotas.

Meanwhile, the jet fuel market softened day on day with prompt intermonth spreads trading into a narrower backwardation.

Amid a weaker jet fuel market on Monday, the regrade discount widened to about $3.40 a barrel, based on LSEG data.

- ExxonMobil's 275,000-barrel-per-day oil refinery in Joliet, Illinois, restarted nearly two weeks after a power outage, the company said on Saturday.

- Brent crude oil rebounded more than 2% on Monday after US President Donald Trump rejected a peace deal from Iran to resolve their conflict and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

- Crude oil exports from key Middle East producers rebounded in September to 12.8 million barrels per day, the highest since the US-Israeli war with Iran started in February, data from Kpler showed on Monday, as Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates boosted exports.

- Goldman Sachs said that a US diesel export ban would initially put moderate downward pressure on diesel prices, and that restrictions on exports, including quotas, were a plausible outcome.

- Italian state-controlled energy group Eni said it would cap fuel pump prices for at least one month, supporting Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's efforts to curb energy costs.
