Founded in 1863, Bayer was part of chemicals giant IG Farben in 1925-52, and then returned to being an independent company. The new millennium saw the landmark acquisition of Schering in 2006 – the largest takeover in Bayer's history, and one of the biggest pharma mergers of all time. In September 2015, the company spun out its materials science division into a separate publicly-traded firm Covestro (1COV), retaining about a 70 per cent interest in the business.

On its website, Bayer explains that its innovative products are contributing to finding solutions to some of the world’s major challenges. The company says it is improving quality of life for a growing population by focusing its R&D on preventing, alleviating and treating diseases. It is also helping to provide a reliable supply of food, feed and plant-based raw materials.

In fact, this 150-year-old company was the first in the world to introduce the flagship healthcare product aspirin. Today, the firm manufactures products that include anti-infectives, antibiotics, oncology, cardiovascular, central nervous system drugs, over-the-counter medications, diagnostics and animal-health products, as well as crop protection products, plastics and polyurethanes.

With Capital.com’s Bayer stock chart you can not only quickly view the current Bayer share price, but also trace the company’s shares value in historic terms.

Bayer AG stock saw a period of almost uninterrupted growth from June 2012, when it traded at €46.87 per share, to April 2015, when it peaked at €143.88 per share. The stock then fell back to €82.79 per share in May 2016, right before recovering to hit €121.9 per share in 2017.

However, the uplift was short-lived, and BAYN stock soon started to lose in value sharply, falling as low as €52.21 per share by June 14, 2019. The share price then retraced some of its losses to end the year at €72.81. On March 23, 2020, the stock closed the trading day at its multi-year lowest of €47.5 per share amid the broader market sell off caused by the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak and consequent economic uncertainty.

Only a month later, in June 2020, BAYN shares were already hovering around the €70 level. Ever since, the Bayer stock price has experienced lots of volatility, characterised by multiple price fluctuations.
