Trade Lumber Spot

Price constructed using front two months of Lumber futures.

Each day at 20:04:55 UTC, the undated commodity price is adjusted to reflect the difference between the settlement price of front- and back-month futures. At the same time, a matching cash adjustment is applied — ensuring the overall position remains neutral as the roll progresses. This cash adjustment is fully offset by the running profit or loss on the position.

For many centuries, lumber has been applied for construction purposes all over the world. However, only the Industrial Revolution brought lumbering to such a large production scale. Lumber is always unique, because there are no two completely equal trees. Namely for this reason, the American Lumber Standard introduced the national rules regarding the national standards for lumber grade, dimensions and moisture content in 1920s. Hardwood lumber, including maple and oak, is often used for industrial needs, such as wood pallets manufacturing. While colourful lumber with interesting patterns is highly-demanded by the home flooring and furniture producers. Lumber futures are traded on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME Globex) under the ticker symbol LBS. The contract size comprises 5110,000 board feet (260 cubic metres).
