London-listed budget airline Wizz Air has unveiled plans to begin flights from Vienna Airport.
Austria will become the 44th country in its network when its establishes an Austrian base in June, initially with one Airbus A320 aircraft. This will be closely followed by the addition of two further Airbus A321 aircraft in November.
In all, Wizz hopes to be operating 69 weekly flights on 17 routes from Vienna by 2018, backed by an investment of $331m.
Commenting on the development, József Váradi, chief Executive at Wizz Air, said: "Today, everything changes for Austrian travellers. For the first time, truly low fares arrive in Vienna. We are confident that our excellent value service and extensive route network will make Wizz Air the airline of choice for travellers to and from Austria."
