When the NASDAQ Transportation Index was developed on February 5, 1971, it had a base value of 100. In 1990, it closed the year at 417.07 and in 1999, it closed the year at 999.11. The index hit a high of 3,107.87 in 2007, but hit a six-year closing low of 1,242.50 two years later in 2009. In 2014, it broke the high from 2007.
