The NASDAQ Transportation Index is a capitalisation-weighted index created to measure the performance of all NASDAQ stocks in the transportation sector. The parent index of the NASDAQ Transportation Index is NASDAQ Composite Index.

Developed in 1971, the index tracks transported stocks on NASDAQ, the world's second largest exchange by market capitalisation. Examples of companies included on the index are Ryanair Holdings plc, Euroseas Ltd. and JetBlue Airways Corporation.
What you need to know about the NASDAQ Transportation Index.
When the NASDAQ Transportation Index was developed on February 5, 1971, it had a base value of 100. In 1990, it closed the year at 417.07 and in 1999, it closed the year at 999.11. The index hit a high of 3,107.87 in 2007, but hit a six-year closing low of 1,242.50 two years later in 2009. In 2014, it broke the high from 2007. Other companies listed on the index include Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings, SMF Energy Corporation, Hub Group Inc and Spirit Airlines Inc.
