It’s a series of indices that cover every company listed on the main market of the Bursa Malaysia, formerly the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange. It’s designed to track the performance of shares offered by the major companies in Malaysia.

In 2006, the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange teamed up with the FTSE Group to create the index series. It calculates all tradable indices every 15 seconds, and benchmark indices every minute.

The series divides the market into size segments, such as large cap and small cap, and includes Shariah-compliant indices which meet all the requirements of Shariah law. It also offers themed indices that represent the palm oil plantation sector.

The indices are used for index tracking funds, derivatives, exchange-traded funds and as a performance benchmark.

The currencies involved in trading are the Malaysian ringgit, British pound, Japanese yen, US dollar and euro.
