US Cash Grains-Soy crusher basis bids steady-higher amid harvest delays

CHICAGO, Sept 17 (Reuters) - Spot cash basis bids for soybeans delivered to U.S. Midwest processing plants were mostly steady to higher on Thursday as harvest delays and more rain in the forecast left some buyers short of immediate supplies, grain merchants said.

• Corn basis bids were mostly unchanged.

• Heavy rain, mostly in the central and western Midwest, has delayed early harvesting. The rainy weather is expected to continue into next week, forecasters said.

• Some soybean buyers have been offering farmers large premiums for supplies delivered in the next week or two.

• A soy processor in Lincoln, Nebraska, offered a 50-cent-per-bushel premium for beans delivered by next Tuesday versus beans delivered later in September. Bids for soybeans delivered to a Council Bluffs, Iowa, crusher by Saturday were at a 90-cent premium over bids for beans delivered through the end of the month.

• The U.S. Department of Agriculture said exporters sold a net 1,701,957 metric tons of U.S. soybeans in the week ended September 10 and 1,026,705 tons of U.S. corn. Both were down from a week earlier but were in line with trade estimates.

• CBOT November soybeans were down 2-1/4 cents near midday on Thursday at $13.18-1/4 a bushel, while December corn was down 4-1/2 cents at $5.29-3/4 a bushel.
