Spanish lender Unicaja says chairman will step down
MADRID, Oct 1 (Reuters) - Spanish lender Unicaja UNI.MC said on Thursday that its non-executive Chairman José Sevilla had decided to step down after the next shareholders' meeting, as he will not stand for reelection.
Sevilla was appointed non-executive chairman in February 2024 and took over in April that year at Spain's sixth-largest bank by market value.
Before joining Unicaja, he had been CEO of now-defunct Bankia for almost seven years before Caixabank CABK.MC completed its acquisition of the former state-owned lender in March 2021.
Unicaja said Sevilla's announcement allows the succession process to be addressed in an appropriate and orderly manner.
