Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR) has signed a financing agreement with the Swiss Export Risk Insurance SERV and KfW IPEX-Bank, Commerzbank and UBS Switzerland AG to finance the purchase of 10 new passenger trains from Swiss manufacturer Stadler.

The purchase is part of SAR’s strategic plans to expand and develop its passenger fleet.

The new order builds on SAR’s contract with Stadler signed in 2024, bringing the total number of trains contracted from the company to 20. Each new train will consist of five cars with a capacity of 302 seats.

SAR CEO Bashar AlMalik said the fleet expansion will enhance transportation options and intercity connectivity, support business and tourism, and increase the share of rail transport, in line with the National Transport and Logistics Strategy and Saudi Vision 2030.
