SABIC Agri-Nutrients Company (SABIC AN) has awarded an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract worth $3.5 billion for an industrial complex producing ammonia and urea in Jubail Industrial City.
The contract was awarded to Samsung E&A after the board approved the final investment decision for its seventh project, the company said in a statement to the Saudi stock exchange on Thursday.
The complex includes an ammonia plant with an annual production capacity of 1.2 million metric tonnes, two urea plants with a combined annual production capacity of 2.6 million metric tonnes and a carbon capture unit.
Construction will begin in the fourth quarter of 2026, with commissioning scheduled in the third quarter of 2030, which will last for four months. Commercial production is expected in the fourth quarter of 2030.
The project is expected to increase urea production capacity to 7.4 million metric tons per year, a 54 percent increase.
The company is assessing financing options, including loans and cash flows, to fund the project, the statement said.
