EYES ON NEXT WEEK'S TECH RESULTS AFTER RECENT SELLOFF

The bulk of third-quarter S&P 500 earnings reports are in, but Thursday's sharp tech-led selloff and worries about increased AI regulations may keep investors closely focused on results ahead from some key tech companies.

Results from CoreWeave CRWV.O, Applied Materials AMAT.O and Cisco Systems CSCO.O are all due next week, while top chipmaker Nvidia NVDA.O is due to release its quarterly report on November 17.

Strategists said the AI trade worries followed Tuesday's midterm elections, where Democrats won control of the US Congress and also won several key governors' races in data-center-heavy states such as Texas. Voters have been concerned for months about environmental and other issues due to the rise of data centers. The tech-heavy Nasdaq .IXIC had its biggest daily percentage drop in 19 months on Thursday, confirming it was in a correction.

Year-over-year earnings growth for the third quarter for S&P 500 .SPX companies is now estimated at 33.4%, according to LSEG data on Friday, which is based on results from 435 of the companies. The latest estimate is up from 30.6% at the start of October.
