Higher costs offset Domino's growth for India's Jubilant FoodWorks; profit flat
Nov 6 (Reuters) - India's Jubilant FoodWorks JUBI.NS, which operates Domino's Pizza DPZ.O outlets in India, posted a largely flat quarterly profit from continuing operations on Friday, as higher fuel, wages and raw material costs offset steady growth in the pizza unit.
The company reported a consolidated profit from continuing operations of 1.14 billion rupees ($12.11 million), largely unchanged from 1.13 billion rupees a year earlier.
Its net profit, however, fell over 40% to 1.08 billion rupees
The year-ago quarter included an 812.2-million-rupee gain from discontinued operations and the sale of its stake in a Russian unit
Jubilant's second-quarter revenue rose around 12% to 26.08 billion rupees
Its expenses rose 12.9% to 24.68 billion rupees
Analysts had expected Jubilant's growth to accelerate in the second quarter from the previous three months, although elevated fuel and raw material costs, such as those for chicken and dairy, continued to weigh on margins
Domino's India recorded like-for-like growth of 4.1% during the quarter, up from 2.5% in the June quarter.
Fried chicken brand Popeyes logged like-for-like growth of 53%
"Impact of inflation is to the tune of approximately 200 basis points ... due to increase in LPG cost, hike in minimum wages and raw material cost. Commodities like oil and cheese are now on the rise," the company said
