GE Vernova will provide rotor life extension solutions for five 9F gas turbines located at the Kureimat, Nubaria and North Cairo power plants in Egypt, the NYSE-listed company said in a press statement on Wednesday.
The long-term contract, which was officially booked in the second quarter of 2026, is being implemented under the supervision of the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company (EEHC) and involves assets operated by Upper Egypt Electricity Production Company, Middle Delta Electricity Production Company and Cairo Electricity Production Company.
The five turbines have a combined generating capacity of approximately 1,250 megawatts (MW), the press statement said.
GE Vernova did not disclose the value or duration of the agreement but the statement said the company will undertake upgrades and maintenance of the turbine rotors and extend their operational lifespan by 13 to 15 years, with technical works and field inspections scheduled between 2028 and 2035.
Combined-cycle gas-fired power plants currently account for roughly 80 percent of Egypt's electricity generation, the statement noted, adding that more than 60 GE gas and steam turbines representing 10GW of generation capacity are operating in Egypt.
