BP says Whiting, Indiana refinery offered to meet union, awaits response
Nov 6 (Reuters) - BP BP.L on Friday said representatives from its 440,000-barrel-per-day oil refinery in Whiting, Indiana had offered to meet United Steelworkers Local 7-1 next week but had yet to receive confirmation from the union.
"At our last negotiating session on Monday, October 26, BP again provided revised contract language to address union concerns. We had also expected the union to bring revised contract language for consideration, but it did not," the company said in a statement.
BP said it has repeatedly sought to establish a regular cadence of meetings so the parties can steadily work through the issues that remain, but the union has not agreed to an ongoing schedule of negotiating sessions.
Although BP has continued to provide information and revised contract language to address union concerns, the union has not offered any new contract language, counterproposals, or anything new for consideration since May, it said.
Following the October 26 meeting, BP said it proposed meeting this week on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, but no meetings were confirmed.
BP added that it is ready to meet as often as needed, whether through formal bargaining, informal discussions or federal mediation.
