BioStock publishes the Q3 2026 edition of State of Nordic Biopharma
The Nordic life science index ended the third quarter of the year broadly flat (Nordic HC SEK GI +0.27%), while the market was marked by billion-dollar licensing deals on the one hand and phase III setbacks on the other. This is according to the latest edition of BioStock's quarterly analysis State of Nordic Biopharma, published today.
Three of the quarter's four largest transactions were licensing deals. Novo Nordisk in-licensed Hengrui's oral GLP-1/GIP agonist for up to USD 2.6 billion, while AlzeCure Pharma out-licensed to QuantumCell (above USD 2.2 billion) and Nanexa to Novo (up to EUR 1.165 billion). In addition, AstraZeneca invested USD 2 billion in Summit Therapeutics.
The quarter's largest single-stock move came from Nanexa, which rose 177% following its PharmaShell licence with Novo.
At the same time, the setbacks at times seemed to line up: AstraZeneca's Wainua missed in ATTR-CM, Novo's ZEUS trial returned a hazard ratio of 0.99, and Ascelia Pharma and Xspray Pharma each received a Complete Response Letter (CRL) from the FDA. The two large caps nonetheless delivered in their second-quarter reports, with Novo raising its full-year outlook and AstraZeneca reconfirming its guidance. Among smaller companies, Alligator Bioscience stopped development of mitazalimab, Episurf Medical is winding down its medtech business, 2cureX was delisted and Magle Chemoswed proposed a voluntary delisting.
Looking ahead to the fourth quarter, the December PDUFA dates for Camurus and Hansa Biopharma and Cinclus Pharma's expected phase III topline results are highlighted as key events.
