** Shares of Equus Energy EQU.AX rise as much as 6.7% to A$0.400, their highest since August 14

** The energy co says Australia's Alcoa has accepted stage 1 pre-front end engineering design deliverables for Equus gas project

** Co adds, Alcoa also approved Equus to progress to stage 2 under the parties' gas sales and funding agreement

** The approval unlocks $1.5 million of additional funding for Stage 2 - Co

** EQU remains 100% owner of the project

** YTD, stock up 25.4%
