Oil prices edged lower on Thursday, after climbing 4% in the previous session, as Iran said it remained open to diplomacy to end the US-Iran war, though the two countries remain far apart on ways to do so. O/R


SOUTH AFRICA MARKETS

The South African rand fell on Wednesday after the central bank raised its key interest rate, saying the move was needed to steer inflation back toward its 3% target, while data showed headline inflation edged higher in August.

Hours after renewed fighting in Tigray shattered a four-year-old peace deal, Ethiopian President Taye Atske-Selassie Amde told the UN his country had exercised "immense restraint" and made progress with its neighbors despite foreign interference.


GHANA RESERVES

Ghana's central bank will prioritise rebuilding foreign exchange reserves in the coming months as it navigates a weaker current account, declining reserves and a pause in gold exports by state buyer GoldBod since August, Governor Johnson Asiama said on Wednesday.

Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) is seeking to raise 16.3 billion Ghana cedis ($1.4 billion) from domestic investors to fund cocoa purchases for the upcoming season, according to a government presentation to investors seen by Reuters.
