Penn National Gaming (PENN) provides diversified retail and online gaming, live racing and sports betting entertainment services in the US.
Founded by Peter M. Carlino in 1982, Penn National operates 44 properties across 20 states, including 50,000 gaming machines, 1,300 table games and 8,800 hotel rooms. Its properties operate under various brands, including Hollywood, Ameristar and L’Auberge.
Headquartered in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania, the company divides its retail gaming and racing properties into segments based on geographic region. It operates through five business segments: Northeast, South, West, Midwest and Interactive.
The Northeast segment includes Ameristar East Chicago, Hollywood Casino Bangor and Marquee by Penn. The South includes 1st Jackpot Casino, Boomtown Bossier City, L’Auberge Lake Charles and Margaritaville Resort Casino.
The West segment consists of properties such as Ameristar Black Hawk and Tropicana Las Vegas Hotel and Casino. The Midwest segment includes Argosy Casino Alton, Hollywood Casino Aurora and River City Casino.
Other segments include Freehold Raceway and Retama Park Racetrack. Interactive comprises the operations of Penn Interactive, theScore and the company’s proportionate share of earnings attributable to Barstool Sports.
In February 2020, Penn National entered a strategic partnership with Barstool Sports. Under the partnership, Barstool can promote Penn National’s land-based and online casinos exclusively and sports betting products, including the Barstool Sportsbook mobile app, to its national audience.
In October 2021, Penn National acquired Score Media and Gaming.
Penn National became a public company in May 1994. Its shares are traded on the Nasdaq under the ticker symbol PENN.
