Krispy Kreme (DNUT) is a global restaurant chain that specialises in serving doughnuts. The company also offers cookies, brownies, cookie cakes, ice cream, cookie-wiches, cold milk, doughnut mixes, baking ingredients and doughnut-making equipment.
Headquartered in North Carolina, US, Krispy Kreme was founded in 1937 and was known as Krispy Kreme Doughnuts until 2021.
As of July 2022, the firm operates in 31 countries through approximately 1,810 Krispy Kreme and Insomnia Cookies-branded shops, which include both owned and franchised outlets. Though stores are mostly based in the US and Canada, Krispy Kreme has a significant presence in Australia, Turkey, Thailand, Mexico, Guatemala, Qatar, South Africa, Saudi Arabia and Singapore.
The company first went public in 2000, however, in May 2016 JAB Holdings, a German conglomerate, took the doughnut chain private in a deal worth $1.35bn, after the company filed for bankruptcy.
