ConocoPhillips (COP) is a US-based oil and gas company headquartered in Houston, Texas. The firm is the largest crude oil producer and largest owner of exploration leases in Alaska.
The company is the world’s largest independent exploration and production company with operations spread across 13 countries.
ConocoPhillips uses technology to raise the production of its current resources and to develop areas that were previously reported as unrecoverable regions.
The company was established in1875 by Isaac Elder Blake under the name Continental Oil and Transportation Co. It then built its first pipeline in California in 1883, from a railroad station in Pico to Ventura. The first pipeline was used to load oil on to steamers that were enroute the Golden Gate Bridge area for distribution.
ConocoPhillips stock is listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) under the ticker symbol COP. The oil producer debuted on the NYSE on 13 January 1978, offering its shares at the initial price of $23.
As of August 2022, the company pays a dividend to its shareholders. The company’s financial year lasts from 1 January to 31 December.
