AdvisorShares is a Maryland based investment management company that offers strongly managed exchange traded funds (ETF) through the AdvisorShares Trust. The company began its first active ETF fund in 2009 after Fund.com showed interest in the company the previous year.

Where have you heard about AdvisorShares?

In 2014, AdvisorShares had 24 active ETFs and $1.83 billion under management. 60% of AdvisorShares is owned by Fund.com as it is its subsidiary. The company also has third party partners who already manage clients using exchange traded funds.

What you need to know about AdvisorShares.

AdvisorShares has had three main types of funds:

  • The Dent Tactical ETF: This began trading on the NYSE in September 2009. In July 2011 it was reported that it had the largest expense ratio among EFTs. Dent formally closed in August of 2012.
  • The Mars Hill Relative Value ETF: This Mars Hill Partners LLC ETF started trading in July 2010, accumulating $38 million a month after launch. In December 2011 it was sold to Accuvest Global Advisors.
  • The Global Echo ETF: This was launched on the NYSE in May 2012 and it specified in sustainable investing. The longest running fund, it closed in May 2017.
